Ten Years of This Blogging Thing

Hey there, everyone.

The 22nd of February 2023 marks the tenth anniversary of this blog. Well, it started on Blogger under a terrible name which, if you’ve checked the ‘About’ page, you’ll know about. But yeah. Ten years. What initially was going to be random-thoughts-on-a-daily-basis blog then turned into a concrete thing that came from the idea of “I like music, and I’m sure I could write about it on a daily occurrence. I should write about the songs on my iPod Touch.” And so I did. I was writing posts on the same day as they were posted almost every day for a long, long time. That then turned into every other day. Now I’m writing posts two months in advance. It’s just so much more manageable.

I’m glad I did start it. Gives me something to think about for the length of time I take to write each post. My writing back in those early was very melodramatic, exaggerated. I really wanted to get that feeling across that I very much cared for these songs. There are a lot of exclamation marks, smiley faces… uppercase letters. Very teenage. I don’t go back to those usually. Thank goodness, I’ve reeled it in a bit. There was a hiatus for a large period from 2015-2017 as I worked for a year and completed my final year of uni, and there was a lot of growing that happened in that time. Since then, I’m much more happier with the posts I’ve done on here, and even then I feel like I could add more to what I write.

So if you want to witness a naive, awkward 17-year-old slowly transition into a much-less-awkward-but-still-always-sort-of-there 27-year-old, here’s the very first post I made on that day. So innocent. I’d much rather be my age than 17 again.

Update

Hey there! Hope you’re all taking care of yourselves.

Just a short, sharp shock of a post to let you know what’s going on. Some people may be subscribed to this thing and wondering why they are when I apparently don’t seem to post anything.

Well, posts are in the works. The O’s will be starting from the 5th September, just in time for the start of the school year 5pm as usual. That’s British time. I think minus five hours is for guys on the US East Coast, that would make 8 for the West. I want to say I know my time zones.

But yes, I’m working on the posts at the moment. Wanna say they’ll be good. You readers might just come for the music rather than the words I write, and that’s fine. I do carry on a bit sometimes. But when it comes down to it, the music is what it’s all about on here.

So, yes. September 5th 2022. Mark it in your calendars.

Here are a few songs that I’ve come across lately that I would definitely have written about had I put them on my phone at the right time.

Follow Me on the Twitter Place

That’s right, people. This blog now has an official Twitter account. After eight years of functioning. Now you’re probably wondering why in all this time I never made one. Many of you may not care in the slightest. But for those who do, I’ve never been very social media savvy. All the posts I’ve made have been shared on my personal Twitter account. I’ve realised however that people who know me might not care for the stuff I put on here, and the followers on here who like what I write might not care for the personal points. Going into the new year, things had to change.

So follow me on Twitter! And by ‘me’, I mean the blog. The account is @MusicMyEarsBlog, again, that’s @MusicMyEarsBlog. Be sure to catch the latest updates here. I’ll maybe share a random video from time to time. Share a few thoughts and opinions, nothing too heavy. I’ll try and at least provide a brief exhale through the nostrils moment. It’ll all be there.

That’s @MusicMyEarsBlog. Have a nice day! New post comes tomorrow.

The Playlist Update

Hello again. So remember what I said in that other post where I unveiled the playlist for this place with great pride and a hope that a lot of people would follow it? Well, forget a lot of what is written in there.

In the weekend that just went, I realised that putting every song that I’ve written on here just isn’t that great of an idea. Plus, it slowed my Spotify app down immensely. I’m going to make it a playlist that constantly changes. Instead of all the songs being on there, one song from each letter that I covered so far (A-M) will be on there. Every… let’s say two weeks, I’ll update the list with another set of songs from each letter, and so on and so forth. Kinda like how Spotify do their Discover Weekly/Release Radar playlists. That way I can throw in some songs that I never got to write about too. Not such a bad idea is it? A lot more practical. Hopefully I’ve explained this well. If not, give it a follow and you’ll see what I mean, hardy-har-har.

Again, it’s an idea that’s under construction. But I think it should work well. So there’s the playlist below. All 13 songs on there I’ve written about on here. So have a listen, and have a read too. Why not?

It’s a playlist. A playlist for everybody.

It’s July. Stop the presses. This blog’s got a playlist.

That’s right. If you’re not up to reading all of those posts on this place, you can at least listen to the majority of them on the new Spotify playlist I’ve created. It’s still under construction. At the moment, it only covers A to B. At some point, it will have the majority of songs I’ve covered on here so far. Put it on anytime. When you’re having a shower. Mowing the lawn. Studying. On shuffle. Or even in alphabetical order if you want to truly follow the journey.

There are a lot of songs on there that I don’t listen to anymore. Some because I fell out of love with them. Others because they were more acceptable to listen to in 2013 than now. (I think it’s an unwritten rule that we don’t speak of Lostprophets anymore.) Also, Spotify just doesn’t have some songs on their platform. And there are so many artists and tracks that I listen to now that will never be on there just because I wasn’t listening to them at the time. But this playlist captures me at a point where all of the tracks mattered to me.

So give it a follow if you wish. It’s on the right hand side of every page you click on this blog, I believe. But I’ll embed down below, because what better time to do it.
