Follow Me on the Twitter Place

That’s right, people. This blog now has an official Twitter account. After eight years of functioning. Now you’re probably wondering why in all this time I never made one. Many of you may not care in the slightest. But for those who do, I’ve never been very social media savvy. All the posts I’ve made have been shared on my personal Twitter account. I’ve realised however that people who know me might not care for the stuff I put on here, and the followers on here who like what I write might not care for the personal points. Going into the new year, things had to change.

So follow me on Twitter! And by ‘me’, I mean the blog. The account is @MusicMyEarsBlog, again, that’s @MusicMyEarsBlog. Be sure to catch the latest updates here. I’ll maybe share a random video from time to time. Share a few thoughts and opinions, nothing too heavy. I’ll try and at least provide a brief exhale through the nostrils moment. It’ll all be there.

That’s @MusicMyEarsBlog. Have a nice day! New post comes tomorrow.

#588: The Beatles – I’ll Follow the Sun

So it goes that ‘I’ll Follow the Sun’, the fifth track on the Beatles’ second album of 1964 Beatles for Sale, had been one that Paul McCartney had saved up since he was sixteen up to that point. That album was created during a time when the group were constantly touring and barely had any free time to themselves; when they did have that time, it would be used for working and going into the studio and recording more songs. McCartney and Lennon didn’t have as much time to write original material together too, so the former pulled this particular track out to get things moving forward.

‘I’ll Follow the Sun’ sees McCartney writing about the end of one relationship and looking on to the next one with a sense of optimism and wonder, whilst the lady who is left behind doesn’t know what she’s lost until it really hits. It’s a good tune with a great melody as is typical in a lot of McCartney songs. Very mellow with subtle knee-slapping percussion from Ringo Starr and a rhythm guitar in the right channel that has such a smooth tone to it, either played by Harrison or McCartney. In comparison to the ‘shake-it-up-baby-now’ good time music of their previous albums, ‘I’ll Follow the Sun’ – and Beatles for Sale as a whole – signified a change in musical style that would only continue to evolve as the group continued to work together.

Here’s Paul playing the song live with his band in 2005, ’cause why not.

My iPod #380: Big Boi ft. Vonnegutt – Follow Us

Honestly, I got nothing to say about this track. I heard it when I was listening through “Sir Lucious” for the first time, and it sounded like a highlight to me.

On a lot of tracks on the album, Big Boi is very boastful and is always eager to tell you just how sick he is. It is no different on this one, going on to compare his rhymes and rapping to a vicious pitbull attack and sending a message to those who thought he wouldn’t do so well solo without his Outkast partner André 3000. Well he proved them wrong, and along with fellow label act Vonnegutt (or at least that group’s lead singer) he calls to you to follow him and listen to this song and other good music in general, because that is the only way you will learn.

This is a good hip-hop song, from a great hip-hop album. Admittedly, I don’t know all the words to the verses and only sing along to the chorus…. but I still know good music when I hear it. This qualifies.
